XRISM, led by JAXA with ESA’s participation, unveiled detailed structures, motion, and temperatures of material around a supermassive black hole and supernova remnant N132D. Using its Resolve instrument, XRISM discovered N132D’s doughnut shape and measured plasma speeds of 1200 km/s. It also detected iron at 10 billion degrees Kelvin, confirming theoretical predictions. These findings enhance understanding of black hole growth and stellar evolution, showcasing XRISM’s exceptional capabilities in high-energy astronomy.
